About Aengus Dewar

I was born in 1974 and have since lived in Ireland, Zambia, Italy and the UK. I had my training as an artist in Florence from the Charles Cecil School where I also lectured in philosophy, history and art history. I’m a painter of allegories, figures, people and animals. I’m as enthusiastic about working in charcoal as I am in paint. Many of my drawings centre in an unsentimental way on African wildlife, and hark back to a family association with the Zambian bush. A portion of my painted works are more allegorical and explore ideas. I love doing portraits, both of people and the animals they care for. I’m a triple finalist in the ARC Salon contest in New York, and my works have been featured on book covers and in magazines in the UK, Italy, Germany, Ireland and the US. I’m currently based in Wiltshire, and spend most of my time working on the paintings and drawings that are commissioned from me.
